Keep Up The Slog - Write About Lizards
Updated: Feb 16
I'm back. Sorry to disappoint.
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything. Some of you might have noticed. Some of you probably don’t care.
One thing’s for certain though, I want to start doing it again.
The reason for his black hole of minimal effort literature is because, shock horror, I’ve found a new job. So, I’m knackered…. All the time...
It’s like being back in school, starting completely from scratch.
All I’ve ever known is how to make drinks. Now, it’s all fancy office programs and technical mumbo jumbo.
I’ve been thrown into a vortex of suits, ties, and excel spreadsheets.
And I love it.
If anyone’s interested, my new job is being the staff resourcer at a healthcare agency. Yes, I know I've been fucked over by a recruitment agency in the past. Yes, I get the irony…
But I’m given a level of responsibility that I’ve never experienced before. There’s an indirect freedom involved, in that they don’t care how I get the job done, as long as it produces results. I’ll never have a customer scream at me over something petty, like their flat white being made with semi-skimmed milk instead of full fat.
Don’t get me wrong, I greatly miss all my chums at the coffee shop. They were like a second family. But do I miss the clientele who confused the place with a Michelin star establishment?
I’ll get back to you on that one…
If someone kicks off at the agency, it’s over something important. Something that needs sorting. Something that - if fixed - makes you feel like you’ve saved the day.
But anyway, I digress.
I’m teetering on the edge of no longer falling asleep as soon as I get home, a burnt-out wreckage of stress and brain fog.
I can just about say 'I know what I’m doing'.
(Although, truth be told, I’d probably still crumble if someone put pressure on me about it.)
So, I’m going to start writing again. And that doesn’t just mean this blog. It means everything. Absolutely everything.
Novels. Plays. Articles about lizard piss.
Whatever comes to mind, I’m forcing myself to put pen to paper - or finger to keyboard. Most of it will never see the light of day, but that’s not what matters.
I'll admit this is a very self-indulgent blog. More of an update, than anything. But, hopefully, you can take something away from it?
Err, starting a new job makes you tired? No, no that’s shit.
It’s important to keep up your hobbies? Yeah, sure, let’s go with that one.
Keep up with your hobbies, people. Because I’ll be boring you all to death with mine.
